Accomplishments of the Gaden Shartse Monastery are due largely impart to the help and generosity of those who support the tours.

The monks of Gaden Shartse are deeply grateful to their friends in the West who have given their time, effort, and homes to make the tours possible.

The 84 acres of farmland leased by the Monastery currently produces non‑irrigated rice. This rice, not suitable for human consumption, is sold very cheaply and is used as cattle feed. The land could be much better put to use with more viable crops, such as fruit trees and animal fodder.

This, however, will require the installation of bore wells, tanks, drip systems, fencing, barns, cows (for the production of fertilizer) and permanent care takers.

A pilot project for 10 acres will require $70,000

but will lead to greater self‑sufficiency for the Monastery in the long‑term. These are the primary goals of the monastery tours. Your advice and constructive suggestions are welcomed. The Monastery has a number of guestrooms and visitor's are always welcome providing one has the necessary papers required by the Indian government.
